A combination of altitude, a unique climate and big storms sweeping in from the west
mean that Wolf Creek is a real snow trap, so much so that it picks up almost 11m of powder a year. Add in its fairly remote location and you have the perfect combination – no crowds and lots of powder. This means that although there’s some decent skiing for beginners or intermediates, the real attraction is the advanced and expert terrain, plus the renowned tree-skiing. The runs off Knife Ridge are the jewel in the crown, but there are also some great steep runs in the Waterfall and Alberta Peak zones.
There is little more at the base than a couple of lodges and a big car park, so you’ll need to stay down the hill if you’re looking to ski here. Pagosa Springs or South Fork are your best bets, each lying around half an hour away. Wolf Creek’s remote location (you either need an internal flight or a five hour drive from Denver to get here) means it is worth tying in your trip with a visit to another nearby resort – Telluride, Silverton and Purgatory are good options.

Getting to Wolf Creek
The resort is a mere hour and a half away from Denver by car and its also possible to get there easily by bus or even the train, just add on an extra hour to the journey.
