The 100km of slopes fan out from the three base villages on a northwest facing, wooded slope that reaches 2720m in altitude.
This is helpful as the location in the French Southern Alps means that snow reliability is not quite as good as further north, although snowmaking has improved things in recent years. Four fast 6-seater chairs serve the majority of the resort’s runs, which are mostly rated red, although there are also some good long green runs to make this a great resort for beginner progression. The best run has to be the long, winding Grand’cabane, which drops 900m down a quiet valley at the resort’s southern end.
Of the three bases, Les Orres 1650 and 1800 are the biggest and have the widest variety of accommodation, bars and restaurants. Most apartment blocks and chalets are well located right at the foot of the slopes, making most very convenient places to stay. Both tend to be fairly quiet at night, but there are some decent restaurants to choose from. Getting here requires a long 3.5 hour transfer from either Nice or Lyon, but this does mean that the resort rarely suffers from huge queues, even at peak times.
